Opening Sypha in the Right Sidebar
Learn how to open Sypha in the right sidebar in VS Code and Cursor
By default, upon first installation of Sypha, it displays in VS Code's left sidebar alongside your file explorer and other extensions. However, for an enhanced coding experience, we recommend relocating Sypha to the right sidebar. This permits you to maintain your project files visible in the left sidebar while interacting with Sypha on the right, providing you complete visibility of your codebase as Sypha operates on your project.
VS Code
To open Sypha in the right sidebar:
Guarantee your extension view is aligned vertically to the left
Select the button that opens the right side panel in VS Code (typically utilized to open GitHub Copilot chat). Optionally utilize the Option + CMD/Ctrl + B shortcut.
Drag the Sypha icon over to the nav panel at the top of that right view

Cursor
To open Sypha in the right sidebar:
Cursor utilizes a horizontal activity bar by default to optimize space for the AI chat interface (see here for details). To transition to vertical:
- Open the Command Palette (
CMD/Ctrl + Shift + P) - Search for "Preferences: Open Settings (UI)"
- Search for
workbench.activityBar.orientation - Establish the value to
vertical - Restart Cursor for the changes to take effect
Select the Cursor cube icon button (AI Pane) that opens Cursor's agent (right side view panel)
Drag the Sypha icon directly into the AI Pane sidebar.

Once established, Sypha will load on the right side and you can utilize it as normal.
